- University (1988-1993) - Palacky University Olomouc, Faculty of Natural Science, branch: Optics and optoelectronics.
- Doctoral study (1993-1997)- Institute National des Sciences Appliquees, Toulouse, France and Palacky University Olomouc, Czech Rep.. Thesis title: Light propagation in magneto-optical multilayers. Magnetization behaviour. Thesis was defended under international Franco-Czech jury.
- Habilitation (11/2005)- Charles University, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics branch: Physics: Quantum Optics and Optoelectronics, Habilitation thesis title: Optical and magneto-optical ellipsometry.

- magneto-optical ellipsometry, linear and quadratic magneto-optic ef- fects, magneto-optic vector magnetometry, magneto-optic microscopy, magneto-optic waveguides and isolators
- thin film magnetism, magnetic anisotropy, magnetization reversal, pe- riodic magnetic nanostructures
- optics of thin films, light propagation in anisotropic layered media, po- larization optics, optical filters, optics of periodic systems and nanos- tructures, effective medium theory
- spectroscopic ellipsometry, generalized ellipsometry, optical functions of thin films, infrared spectroscopy
